We congratulate Sofía Vásquez and Sonaly Tomas, students in the last year of the Bioengineering degree, for obtaining the TReeS 2022 Scholarship, Provost Research Scholarship and Tambopata Research Scholarship, as well as first place in the Thesis 1 category of the Thesis Competition. His work consists of the development of bacterial nanocellulose hydrogels for the remediation of effluents contaminated with heavy metals, and responds to the problem of contamination of hydrographic sources in Peru, which affects human health and the well-being of our ecosystems. These achievements were possible thanks to the support of UTEC, through the Bioengineering Department, the Research Department and the Center for Water Research and Technology (CITA), in addition to the external collaboration of UC Davis University.
