We congratulate the members of the Lecchain Project, made up of Bioengineering, Electronic Engineering and Computer Science students, who, thanks to their efforts, won the gold medal and two special awards in the international iGEM Design competition. Through the Lecchain project, a candidate for a heat-stable oral vaccine against COVID-19 is being investigated. One of its most important characteristics is that it has the possibility of being transported and distributed without going through the complex and expensive logistics of the cold chain that other vaccines require, in order to reach more people during vaccination campaigns. The first award, called Best Human Practices & Social Impact, recognized Lecchain as the team with the best human practices and social impact due to the constant rapprochement of the project with the community. The second prize, SDG Impact, was given to them because they proved to be the team most aligned with the UN SDGs at all stages of the project. The most important award, the gold medal, recognized the excellence of the project in multiple categories of the competition.
