We congratulate the MikuyTec team, who triumphed by being crowned the Latin American champion of the iGEM Design League last Friday, November 12, and won the long-awaited Grand Prize. This will allow them to travel to Boston and continue with the development of the research project under the advice of Ginkgo Bioworks, the largest North American synthetic biology company in the world. Our team also won a gold medal and was awarded three special awards: • Award for the best design implementation • Award for the best scientific infographic • Award for local heroes They also stood out among all the teams by obtaining six nominations in various categories, among which the best genetic circuit, inclusion and diversity, best human practices and best entrepreneurship and innovation stand out. Our team is made up of young people from three Peruvian universities. On behalf of UTEC, there are Nadia Chamana, Jeremy Guerrero, Alexandra Valdez, María Andrea Gonzales, Rodrigo Gallegos, Gabriel Loayza, Alexander Huayhua, Marjorie Esquivel, Piero Beraun, Sonaly Tomas, Tamara Ortiz and Miguel Saturno.
